Raising Funds for Adi Geda School Project - 2023

The Friends of Eritrea UK are delighted to confirm that our new Project for 2023 will support an Eritrean School, close to the heart of members and supporters, everywhere.

Following a request from the School Rehabilitation Committee - Debarwa subZone Education Office, (Adi Geda Elementary School) - for help with essential renovation and improved facilities  we have set up a Fundraising Project

  If you are able to support us we would be most grateful, Please see the links at the bottom of the page

Chairman's Appeal                Dr. Zerai Woldehiwet writes;

    As a former pupil of Adi Geda Elementary School  /  መባእታ ቤት ትምህርቲ ዓዲገዳ, I recently received  2 letters - one addressed personally to me, and the other to residents and former residents of the villages of Adi Gered and Adi Geda, that use the school.  ( Copies of the letters in Tigrigna are here).  The letters show that the school - one of the oldest-established in Eritrea, dating from the late 1940s, needs financial support to buy everything - from basic facilities like desks and chairs for pupils and teachers as well as more modern teaching facilities such as tv and computing equipment.

 The school receives about 100 new pupils, every year. Some have to attend lessons sitting on the floor because of lack of desks and chairs. Modern facilities such as tv and computers, that we take for granted, are simply out of their reach - as you can see in the excellent photographs, attached.

  One of the main objectives of the Friends of Eritrea UK, is to assist educational institutions in Eritrea, so this is a good project to support. As a beneficiary of this fantastic school I have a special interest. This is where I learned my ABC (ፊዳላት) , and started to learn maths, history, geography and basic sciences, in my mother language. It gives me real pleasure to see this great school continuing to teach children in their own tongue. The school has also produced some truly innovative Eritreans, such as my childhood friend Yemane Russom, who was one of the early developers of Tigrigna and Geeze software for computers.

 The Friends of Eritrea UK will support the School's list of Renovations and Development. Specifically, we will help the children get access to the vast resources of the World Wide Web, allowing the school to buy the TV, computer and related IT equipment that will drive these children's future development.

The full list of current needs is Here (English and Tigrigna). You can support our appeal by sharing this information with your friends and colleagues, or by donating to our Appeal Fund, (Here).
