Appeal on behalf of Keren Public Library 2004/05
As part of the reconstruction and modernisation process, the Municipality of Keren has
initiated a project to construct and run a modern public library with computer network and indoor recreation facilities for residents and all visitors of this historic city.
It has recruited a librarian who has already started surveying the available stock of resources
and the demands of potential readers. All the physical resources are being established and a library committee has been formed to coordinate the implementation of this project. However, because local resources are not adequate to cover all the needs, the Municipality is calling upon the Eritrean Diaspora and all friends of Eritrea for help.
In response to this appeal, the Friends of Eritrea in the UK has offered to coordinate the
collection and transportation of any assistance for this project. We have already managed to acquire a large collection of suitable books but we need to raise funds for buying more books, audiovisual aids, computers and photocopiers and to cover costs of sending these books to Keren. The University of Liverpool has generously provided storage facilities for donated books.
The Friends of Eritrea is appealing to all friends of Eritrea to support this project by donating
books, computers or other suitable material or by making financial contributions. With your support, the Friends of Eritrea aims to raise funds for similar library projects in other towns and schools in Eritrea.
Please send your donations to Jim Trafford, Treasurer, Friends of Eritrea/UK, PO Box 299,
